El Barrio’s Operation Fightback (EBOF)

El Barrio’s Operation Fightback (EBOF) is a nonprofit organization founded in East Harlem in 1985 to provide housing preservation, property management, tenant advocacy, and social services. For more than 30 years, EBOF has been committed to preserving housing and community assets to ensure that the residents of East Harlem have access to safe, affordable homes and high-quality resources and services, including workforce and economic development programs.

As part of its workforce and economic development programming, EBOF operates a FREE Certified Home Health Aide program in English and Spanish that trains hundreds of individuals every year and helps them find employment as home health aides. EBOF is also a proud provider of the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) funded by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD), through which they help connect thousands of young people between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experiences each summer.

In 2021, El Barrio’s Operation Fightback (EBOF) became an affiliate of Acacia Network, one of the largest Latino-led nonprofits in New York State, serving more than 150,000 individuals annually through integrated, trauma-informed programs in the areas of housing, health, social services, economic development, and cultural revitalization.
