Workforce Development

youth workforce development

Acacia Network carries out workforce and economic development programs for adults and youth in New York City and beyond. Through our affiliates and strategic partnerships, we are helping to create clear, culturally responsive pathways to economic mobility for individuals and families in underserved communities. Whether it’s empowering youth to explore career opportunities through paid internships, or equipping adults with the skills and certifications needed to thrive in today’s workforce, our programs are rooted in the belief that every individual deserves the chance to succeed.

The two main affiliates responsible for furthering this work are:

  • SEEDCO: A national nonprofit founded in 1987 to advance economic opportunity for businesses and communities in need, which became an affiliate in the Acacia Network in 2017. Seedco operates through two core program portfolios: (1) Workforce Development (to help individuals with employment barriers to obtain, retain, and advance in jobs), and (2) Work and Family Supports (which assist individuals and families to successfully enroll in health insurance and benefits/assistance programs). • EL BARRIO’s OPERATION FIGHTBACK (EBOF): A nonprofit founded in East Harlem in 1985, focused on housing preservation, tenant advocacy, and social services, which became an affiliate in the Acacia Network in 2021. For over 30 years, EBOF has worked to ensure safe, affordable housing and access to workforce and economic development programs. It offers a free bilingual Certified Home Health Aide training program and participates in the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), helping thousands of youth access paid job opportunities.
